On February 2, 1955 Florence Davis married Roy Alvin Brown and they spent the next 63 years together and raised seven children until Dad’s death in September 2018.

Flo, affectionately known as Little, spent her life teaching. She taught at Musgrave Prep for many years before branching out to open her school, Merrywood Basic School in 1969. She did this until retirement in 2000. While in retirement she taught reading skills at Vaz Prep. That gift for teaching was also spent on her children where we endured heavy doses of Mrs. Brown English and reading lessons. Some of the grandchildren and great grandchildren were also fortunate to experience some of those lessons. Mom loved to quiz her granddaughter and great grandchildren while they were doing their homework. That was the teacher in her. With that being said, she expected perfect English to be spoken in her presence.

Flo Brown dedicated her life to serving Jehovah, which was the most important thing in her life. She has been a faithful witness of Jehovah for countless years. She laid the foundation of that Christian faith in all her children as best as she could.

Flo/Little spent most of her adult life in the Kingston/St. Andrew area. There was a brief move to the northeast United States for a few years but she was not a fan of the cold, so Mom and Dad returned to her first love, Jamaica.

It came as a surprise when Mom told us that she liked Elvis Presley. She loved to dance, was an avid reader, loved doing crosswords, word and jigsaw puzzles. Mom had an affinity for shoes made by Naturalizer, so Marlene always took her to a store that had those shoes. Marie once told Mom she didn’t have a sense of humour, that of course didn’t go over too well with Mom, but after that she unleashed her humour. The grandkids can attest to her sense of humour. Our home was always open to family that would visit from all over. When Mom wanted to get Dad’s attention she would say “Roy” in a tone of voice that he’d better answer. She called our youngest sister Jeri-Lee her handbag, because she was always with her. By the way, Mom couldn’t carry a tune, and sadly she passed that on to all of us! Mom loved watching cricket, and enjoyed the game shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Her absolute passion was gardening. She could make a dead plant come alive. She would get clippings and plant them when she got home. She has a plant that Jan gave her in 1981 and the plant is still going strong.

After Dad passed away, Mom spent the rest of her years with Waynlet in the St. Ann area.

Mom you will be missed. Love you much.
